How We Do Business
“Win the battle before it’s fought” – Sun Tsu, “The Art of War"
In order to “win” your retirement, you must first have a “strategy”. We see hundreds of prospective clients each year and it never ceases to amaze us how few have had a financial plan prepared by their current advisor. Sun Tsu said, "Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat." This is why we don’t make investment recommendations before we’ve first analyzed your existing accounts, discussed with you your current goals and objectives in retirement, and then prepared a draft “retirement budget” and “personal balance sheet”. Once we are all on the “same page” about what your retirement looks like, THEN we can discuss how to get there.
How to get there.
No one can predict the future. However, there are those in the business who have done a very close job of it. What are they saying today? What are they predicting about tomorrow? A few things that are or will become obvious soon according to these sources: First: we are headed towards a massive public pension crisis which could see multiple municipal bankruptcies across the country. Second: the world is awash in debt with very few avenues to “get out of it”. This could indicate significantly higher taxes during your retirement.
How do we position your portfolio to weather these and other potential events?
Our team can't predict the future – but we are humble enough to seek out those who’ve come close and to heed their wise counsel to your advantage.
